Halfway There

We’ve reached the halfway point of the season, and things are really starting to take shape around the site! As each trench removes more and more soil (and rocks!), we can see walls and other features more clearly every day.

Some trenches have the additional challenge of impressively tenacious olive tree roots...

But the increasingly visible architectural features also raise new questions that our intrepid excavators will try to answer in the second half of the season. Where do our walls go? Where's the floor? What is this buttress doing? (Is it a buttress??) Is this a doorway? Where are all the doorways?

We’re washing pottery and other finds furiously every day at lunch to keep up with the pace that they’re being excavated:

Sometimes, pottery washing includes a surprise bonus brick stamp!

Meanwhile, the rock pile is reaching the limits of the available square footage and continues to grow ever upwards…

And as always, #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
